Thanks guys! I love goofing with these shots. Here's a mashup I did for owner of the latest Sprite Two-Point mandola to hold him over while waiting for the "knock-knock-knock" of the FedEx delivery person --

Steve, those photos are very mean to us with MAS. I want all of them. I think there is a two-point army here on the cafe. I want one from each luthier who builds them. and I will never part with my 805D.

LOL, Sorry John!

On the other hand, I've been playing the Sprite (that Doyle was checking out in the video) for the past year . . . and it makes me more mando-obsessed everytime I pick it up.

Can't help but share the love! :mandosmiley:

Stunning. Love that art-deco sprite inlay.

Steve, have you made any Sprites that are tortoise bound, instead of ivoroid? (Pics, if you have!)

I'm just a sucker for that orangey sunburst with tortoise binding and black tuners and... um, on second thought, don't post pics because I don't think I could take it.

Glad to oblige with some pics. I am the proud and happy owner of Steve's first Sprite with tortoise binding and gold hardware. Since I am a sailor, I asked if he could inlay one of his Mermaids instead of the usual Sprite. Hence, the Mermaid Sprite. And yes, she plays and sounds as good as she looks. She makes me aspire to be a better player every time I pick her up. One of the best decisions I ever made. Thank you, Steve!

Sid,
How do you attach the strap?

Sid,
How do you attach the strap?

George,

I use a Neotech neoprene strap. It has a loop for the headstock. I did discuss adding a strap pin with Steve, but opted not to. Ted put his inside the top point, and it seemed to me like the strap would be a bit awkward there. Thought about putting it on the heel block, but then it's in the way when you set the mando down on its back. I run a strap under the neck extension on my A models, but the point, again, causes issues.

The headstock is not ideal, either, but seemed like the best compromise. It's working well for me.

yeah, it would be a difficult choice on strap location... I'd probably start with one under the neck extension, but maybe would add one to the upper horn if the balance was off...

Sid, do you use it for bluegrass, jazz, other styles?

Must... focus... on... playing... rather... than... succumbing... to... MAS...

Sid, that's gorgeous!!!

Sid, do you use it for bluegrass, jazz, other styles?

I'm a bit of a polyglot, I'm afraid. Not much straight up bluegrass, but I might wander from Autumn Leaves to Black
Orpheus to Rickett's Reel to a bit of Bach. Steve sent it to me with a set of JazzMando flat wounds and the tone was very clear and warm. I'm headed towards more Dawg and jazz. I recently switched to a set of J74's and it's a little sharper, but still clear and balanced. I have been extremely happy with the sound and playability. I can't say enough good things about Steve and his instruments.

yeah, that is a beauty! is that the case that a Sorensen normally comes with? I was gonna ask what was going on with that fret right at the joint, then I realized there was a pick there.

Is that the case that a Sorensen normally comes with?

RB,

I have the Superior shaped fiberglass cases, the traditional rectangular cases, and also the Bobelock Arrow fiberglass cases.

I do really like these shaped Superior fiberglass cases because they are so light and easy. Wish that they would add rubber "feet" to the hinged side so you could easily stand the case when carrying with the handle.

Of the different options, I'm really impressed with the quality of the Bobelock Arrow cases -- excellent quality and fit. They come with a nice dog case cover that includes a full sized zippered pocket for music and stuff.

I think Sprites are my favorite build -- no pesky scrolls, but lots of ways to make each instrument special.

The Flying Sprite Moose was a special inlay which ties to the Alaskan theme of Matt's band Hot Dish up in Anchorage.
