In the past few days I had the chance to play and ultimately buy a John Hamlett mandolin. As a shameless plug I must say that John's instruments are amazing. I got a "PM" from a fellow cafe member recently who urged me to pull the trigger on the Hamlett,saying I would be glad I did. He was right! This mandolin is strong, delicate, nuanced, sweet and all the good things. It can chop when asked, step out for a solo over the banjos, and can be very intimate and tasteful. John' work is definitely worth consideration on one' s short list of top makers.
