Born in Manchester to Irish parents, Michael McGoldrick hass become of the best known flute players on the Irish traditional music scene. This was only the second time (leaving aside Celtic Connections Festival Club appearances) that I’ve seen him with a large band (the other was Ceilidh Culture in Edinburgh in 2005). However I’ve seen him numerous times in other contexts - duos and trios with Dezi Donnelly, Cappercaillie, Moonlighting, Transatlantic Sessions ensembles and the bands of Kate Rusby and John McCusker.
