Your direction is right on, the key is using "ghost strokes". I.e. swinging your hand four times a beat (d u d u), regardless of if you're hitting a string or not. If your hand stops keeping sixteenth-note time when the rhythms slow down, it will feel awkward.

Cool, thanks for that. Thats what I thought, just getting used to the "ghost stroke" has been throwing me off the last few days. Could quite possibly an issue related to the first time I can ever be accused of over-practicing.

I would try playing the first g and d notes on the 7th fret. OR, I might pull of from the e to the d and then from the b to the low g.

Ralph, I think you meant only the first d note on the 7th fret of the G string. The first g note is 5th fret, naturally.
