This is a 1964 Handcarved Mandolin that was constructed by a master craftsman employed by Gibson .

Now you know why the 60's was such a dark period for Gibson!

Definitely a dyslexia victim. #Like the insomniac agnostic with dyslexia. #He'd stay awake all night, wondering whether or not there was a dog. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif

Great Scott!! That thing looks almost identical to my l974 Gibsenbasher..a creation designed to topple the dominance of the giant industrial makers and win fame and plaudits the world over. Unfortunately, due to a nasty PR campaign from my arch-competitor,the drunk down the block,it failed and I was forced to barter it for a much need used gunny sack. In fact,I believe that if you turn it over, you will see my initials on the lower diagonal upear...right near the mouthpiece.

I wonder if Mr. Matty built this before or after he was forced into early retirement by Gibson. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/rock.gif

If Prince played the mandolin, he would play one like this.

Who knows more about Ray Matty (the artist formerly employed by Gibson)?

$2200? It must have a custom 'Brooklyn Bridge' attached to it.

Emando.com has a little information on Mr. Matty including a photo of him holding the listed mando.
It says in part:
"Mr. Matty, a Florida-based mandolinist and luthier, usually built acoustic mandolins resembling the John D'Angelico 2-point model"
