View Full Version : Happy Octave Mandolin Christmas!
Greetings from a snowy Sweden!
I got this nice 1909 Levin octave mandolin a while ago and tried to figure out what to use it for. Turns out it's great for Christmas carols! Hope you enjoy this one!

Thanks all, glad you're getting some Christmas cheer from it.
The octave is from 1939, not 1909 as stated above..

What tuning are you using?
It's cross tuned in AEAE and with a capo on the 2nd fret.

Lovely playing, and a very nice-sounding instrument. I enjoyed it a lot here in snowy Minnesota.

Buxus: The arrangement is my own, the tune is a classic Christmas carol.

Joy to the World is one of my favorite carols -- and that Levin is incredible. Nice job all around.

That was excellent. I think I need to pull my OM out of the case today.

Yeah I found that as well - Christmas tunes just seem to "work" naturally on the mandola
I got one last year just before Christmas and for some reason the first tunes I started playing were Christmas Carrols
which Is not something I normally do on mandolin or octave

Nice instrument and picking. Hey, I love the way Sideshow does "Whatever Happened to Us."
Thanks all!
Randy, that's good to hear! :)

Fabulous instrument and playing! Who needs Tim O'Brien and his Giacomel or Kemnitzer, when we can listen to you and your Levin.:)
I have a Levin mandola of the same age, and it's also a sweet sounding instrument.
Happy x-mas from snowy Norway.
