I made a pickguard pickup assembly for a Gibson TG-50 guitar (now sold) that worked extremely well. It used an inexpensive thin pickup mounted to a custom made tortoise pickguard. I used the Schatten tone and volume under the edge controls and a custom bracket to mount the standard 1/4" jack. The only connection to the guitar is the original mounting screws and a very thin insulated wire down through the F hole and out the end pin hole and under one of the tailpiece screws to ground the strings. So there are NO modifications to the guitar other than a tiny groove along the side of the endpin.
I sloped the pickup towards the fingerboard on the bass string side as I found it enhanced the bass sound, sharpened the treble slightly and also looked better. I can send photos on request.
I have enough material left that I could make another if there is any interest. I do hope I'm not breaking any forum rules with this post, if so the moderator will take care of it I hope.

Sounds cool, but you should post it in the Classifieds. A photo would be nice.
