This is good story and kind of funny. Back in August I bought a Weber Diamondback from a sweet lady out in California. It played so easily and had tone for days. Well last week I get an email from her asking how I was liking the Weber and how much she missed it. She said if I ever wanted to part with it that she would like it back. So being the gentleman that I am we struck a deal and it's should be back in her hands later today.

Well what happened next was I had instant MAS and at the very same time Keith put this wonderful mandolin in the classifieds. Long story short I am now playing my very first small builder mandolin. Fit and finish is impeccable, very easy to play and tone for days. So now I feel good knowing everyone is happy.

I've been a big fan of Keith's work for many years, never thought I'd own one. Here's a quick sound bit I made on my laptop. Excuse the mistakes. https://soundcloud.com/tiderider/newell-a-marche

Wow, what a beauty. Congratulations! Keith does some great work. Nice photos too. Like the figure on the back of the neck.

Hi Obie,
That is a beautiful mandolin!!!!! Funny thing, I've been thinking about buying a high-quality A5 someday. How would you say the neck profile compares to the Diamondback (fatter, narrower) and I'm wondering how wide the nut is, and if it is a radiused fingerboard. If it has the neck feel of the Diamondback, that would be awesome.

Thanks Jill, It's a fine mandolin. Keith is meticulous and it shows as the A5 is completely flawless. For neck comparison, well I wish I had both in my hand to give you an accurate assessment, but I'd say the Newell is no any wider but maybe a tad deeper, for reference the neck is 49/64" from the top of the fretboard to the bottom radius of the neck measured at the first fret, it's 1 1/8" wide at the nut and the fret board is compound 10" to 13" radius with medium size frets (similar to the diamondback). It sounds much better than my cheap recordings, very loud and really responsive. The finish work is absolutely perfect..
