On our local PBS station there is a show called "Songs Of The Mountain" and this last show featured Jimmy Fortune after his days with The Statlers....Jimmy is a great song writer and even better performer...One thing I did see was that he had a mandolin player that used a thumb and finger picks when playing, has anyone ever seen or done this? I knew one fellow that used to do this and he tuned the mandolin like the bottom four string of a banjo and used the same rolls as a banjo player uses....I wonder if the mandolin on this show might have been tuned different in order for him to play the rolls etc...That mandolin player also played steel guitar, regular guitar and a fiddle, of course not at the exact same time but he would switch off from one to the other during some of the songs....
