Hi Guys,
Thought that you might like to see that mandolin of mine with the wenge neck now that it’s completed. It also has a red spruce soundboard and Indian rosewood back and sides. The body is French polished but as the wenge neck has such a good feel to it, I decided to go for tru-oil and wax; my version of a speed neck!

I’m calling this model my “Standard Plus” the idea is to fill the gap (both aesthetically and price-wise) between my stripped back Standard and much more ornate twin-point .
Here’s a link to the obligatory video too; http://youtu.be/f5CZO3HmVXY
Hope you like it.
Cheers Gary.

I enjoyed your clip Gary. I don't think I've come across the term 'wenge' neck. Can you tell me what that is?

Hi Ron,
Glad you liked that- wenge is the type wood that I use for the neck.

Thanks Gary. I'll try to pretend I'm not embarrassed by not knowing that. I fully expected to learn something about a wenge building technique or structural design

Wonderful work Gary. I always enjoy your posts. Seems like a great idea to offer a model between your standard and super duper models.

Gary - That's one seriously 'dark & delicious' mandolin. The Wenge neck is stunning,a perfect match for the back & sides. Coupled with the dark tuners & tuner buttons it's superb !,

Very tasteful indeed Gary.

I'm particularly impressed that you got such a clean join between the FP'd parts and the TruOil on the neck - which is to say I can't see the join!
