Here are two of my new children. #11 is an Engelmann A style with a two piece red maple back and #12 is my first 3 point mandolin. It has the usual red spruce top and two piece maple back. Both of these instruments are sporting numerous revisions to my design, mainly focused at increased playability, response, and overall tone production. I'll be finishing these in the next few weeks. Let me know what you think!

Here is what the A sounded like after 5-6 days of string tension and light playing. The recording was done with a stereo pair of condenser mics.

Here are clips of the 3 point. It had strings on it for about 24 hours when this was recorded on my iphone 4.

And here is a video of Rory Hoffman jamming with #11. If you've never heard of him, you should look him up. Mandolin is not even his primary instrument.

Dan, I'm thinking your awesome work and playing just got overshadowed but the sheer horizontal-ness of Rory's playing... :-)

Those both appear and sound like excellent instruments. Build on!

Rory sounds great on your #11, Dan! I love the (new?) headstock shape on your A-style and your two-point is very sleek and classy looking.

I've heard Rory play live and I was in awe! He's also a really nice fellow, very friendly to talk with. I do not know if he was born slightless or if he lost his sight when he was very young, but he naturally learned to play guitar and mandolin like this; it seemed more natural to him than the standard way to hold and play the instruments. Rory also plays keyboards and accordion and probably many more instruments. He amazes me with his improvisation skills.

Yes, you should look up Rory Hoffman. Rather interesting story.
Back to the mandolins. Quite good sound and beautiful instruments.

I've seen some video of Rory before....his playing is nothing short of epic...he needs to get out more...I'd pay a lot of money for ticket to see and hear this guy up close! Planet Bluegrass....are you hearing this?! Amazing...Dan the mando sounds great too and I've always thought your first couple of mandos were really nice as well.

Here is the A style. I thought the Parthenon here in Nashville would make for a good backdrop.

Just wanted to mention I'm the new owner of the 3 point with the great finish. It also sounds pretty darn good too. Thanks Dan.

Great catch Joe. That's one beautiful mandolin. Probably sounds just as good. The sound tracks Dan has posted lately have just come up as gobbly gook data. So, I haven't heard it yet. It's a Mac thing I think. Hope he puts it up in his Gallery soon. Or, maybe you could give us a track?
[12 for 12 kinda interesting, don't ya think]
