Michael Daves has organized an amazing gathering of Bluegrass Veterans and Young Turks to benefit the restoration of his church, the oldest congregation here in Brooklyn, the 'Borough of Churches.

DETAILS HERE (http://www.thebellhouseny.com/list_all_shows_inc_press24.php?event_id=4171&event_day=SUN+9%2F23#.UEDCPOToLHA.facebook)

Here's what MD has to say about the show: "The Brooklyn Bluegrass Bash is Sunday afternoon, Sept 23 at the Bell House in scenic Gowanus. It's a benefit event to help save a landmark, historic Park Slope church building with a falling ceiling (Old First - 7th ave and Carroll) and will be the biggest gathering of NYC bluegrass talent in years, possibly ever. Musical acts include Chris Thile & Michael Daves, Tony Trischka and Territory, The Andy Statman Trio, Aoife O'Donovan, Noam Pikelny, & Chris Eldridge plus Kristin Andreassen , The Calamity Janes , the Bilger Family, and special appearances by Jen Larson and Kenny Kosek . With emcee Peter Sarsgaard holding court, it's going to be an amazing event both as a musical revue and as a community effort."

Make your travel plans. Buy your tickets very soon. And say hello between songs. (I'll be shooting video for the church to use in its continuing restoration fund raising campaign)

I'll add that I think it's particularly fun to see players of this caliber OUTSIDE their usual well-rehearsed set list.

For example, Chris Eldridge played a solo show for tips, at a small club here last week. It was great fun hearing him play and sing some of his personal favorites, outside the P-Bros. And I'm looking forward to whatever other mix and match guest appearances appear!

And finally, having the Monroe movie implode doesn't seem to have dampened Peter Sarsgaard's enthusiasm for the local bluegrass scene. He and the other Hollywood types do add some glamour to things in these parts.

Dear friends at the Mandolin Cafe. I've started producing videos of the benefit concert for Old First Brooklyn. We'll have performances by all the musicians in the poster above within the next two weeks. Starting with the ending (of course!) below.

The encore was, I'm Working On a Building - appropriate since the whole thing is a benefit to save one of Brooklyn's historic churches, an historic building that serves many vital purposes in the community. I would be beyond GRATEFUL if any of the Cafe folks were willing to make even the SMALLEST of donations to the church's indiegogo campaign here (http://www.indiegogo.com/rescueoldfirst), or find info on youtube. And I would also be grateful if folks would subscribe to OldFirstChurch on youtube, and you'll be able to find new videos as I post them in the coming days by Andy Statman Trio, Tony Trischka, Chris Thile and more!!!

Commercial over. My sincere thanks to my friends at the Cafe!

Here's the latest video. Chris Eldridge holds down the lead on a song that his dad, Ben was playing with the Seldom Scene well before Critter was born. I think the boy shows promise.

Here's another new release, with Aoife O'Donovan doing a great vocal on Pretty Polly. And Jake Tilove has the tough job of holding down the mandolin part. Noam, Critter and Paul usually have another pretty decent mandolin guy, but he was backstage getting ready to go on with Michael Daves.

And you can help the cause by sharing the video with your friends via social media, liking it, and subscribing.

The Brooklyn Bluegrass Bash is happening again... THIS AFTERNOON... to benefit Old First Reformed Church here in Bklyn. A few last minute tickets have been made available. Details HERE (http://www.thebellhouseny.com/event/357669).

And the artists have engaged me to do some video proaction again, so I hope to have a new batch of songs for my friends at the Cafe. And meanwhile, the ones above have aged pretty well.
