Spent many hours trying to get a finish that matches my father's craftsmanship.

Thanks, I just looked at those pictures and they don't do it justice, here are some better quality pics with the man himself. First two were taken outdoors, the third one inside.

Well technically it is number three since we originally built a prototype. Thanks though, I will pass on the positive response to my father.

Hi Chris,

It looks gorgeous!! I see that you moved back up north. Is that why we don't see you playing around Pinellas Co., FL anymore?

Best of luck to you and your dad,

Pardon my ignorance... i must be out of the loop. Who is your dad? He must be a well-known craftsman. nice work in any case on both your parts.

Pardon my ignorance... i must be out of the loop. Who is your dad? He must be a well-known craftsman. nice work in any case on both your parts.

He is relatively new to luthiery so he is not so well known yet. He won't tell you this, but I know from my cousin that he was one of the top welders in the country; only a handful of guys did the kind of critical work he did in nuclear plants and such. His finicky need for precision has carried over well in building mandolins. He graduates the soundboards and backs within 5 thousandths of our specs. He won't win any awards for speed, but he is not happy unless the thing is totally perfect. Thus my anxiety in putting on a finish...

Competent, even perfect, fathers are a challenge, aren't they?
He's a craftsman, but your finish looks up to the challenge to me.
