Yes, not a whole lot of MC, and no, I don't think she is related to the Osborne Brothers (though she is from Kentucky), but she has one of the most distinctive, evocative, intriguing, powerful, and versatile voices to make its presence known on the pop/rock scene over the last twenty years, and the sensibility and taste to match. Her major label debut "Relish" was one of the most consistently rewarding and enduring albums to come along in the Lilith Fair era, and is still one that stands out above the work of most of her peers. She deserves to be recognized on the occasion of her 50th birthday.

This song does indeed feature some fine mandolin, provided by Eric Bazilian of The Hooters, and there is something about the tone and texture of it that is memorable, even haunting. If anyone knows of other songs of hers that feature mandolin, or even a live version of this song that matches what the studio version achieves, please post it. Meanwhile, enjoy!
