Hi, Does anyone know anything about Antonio Carvalho Mandolins? I am looking at buying a better mandolin (started off with a cheap plywood starter pack mandolin, but would now like to a get a solid wood one.)
I have been doing research into different styles of mandolins and have decided what is generally known (tho' incorrectly it would seem) as a Portugeuse style mandolin is what I want. So I am looking at this particular mandolin on Hobgoblin Music http://www.hobgoblin.com/local/GR3110_p_Antonio-Carvalho-Mandolin-Page.htm for £300 and was wondering if anyone had played one of these before.
These style mandolins (with the shorter neck and slightly bigger/deeper body) seem to be difficult to find without paying a huge amount of money (others I've seen are in excess of £500). The only other one I've seen is the Ozark 2001 http://www.eaglemusicshop.com/details1.asp/ProductID/1273/sid/145/ozark-2001-mandolin-romania-solid-spruce-top-mandolin.htm which seems to be a beginner mandolin (though is all in solid wood).
The big problem is that neither of these mandolins seem to be available from Australian shops and I would really like to try before I buy.
