While on vacation last week I found a copy of Danny Roberts new CD "Mandolin Orchards" at Wal-Mart. Awesome mandolin picking, great tunes and well worth the $11.88 Wal-Mart price. Highly Recommended! http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mandosmiley.gif

What tunes - originals? covers? players?

All originals written or co-written by Danny Roberts. It also has a Danny Roberts arrangement of Bonaparte's Retreat. The other musicians are Tony Wray (guitar and banjo), Jimmy Mattingly (fiddle), Charlie Cushman (banjo) and Andrea Roberts (bass).

It truly is one of the best mandolin cd's I've ever come across. Great playing by some of the best guys in the business.

Is this a new CD or an old one? Appears you can buy it here (http://catalog.songsearch.net/catalog/d/danny_roberts.html) but I'm only seieng vague references to it on the web. Appears maybe it has been out for awhile?

Scott, This is a brand new release by Danny (BMG100904). It is put out by WWW.butlermusicgroup.com. The number for BMG is 615-218-0517. In the CD it also lists WWW.dannyroberts.com for contact info.I hope this helps.

Very good CD indeed.

Inquiring minds would like to know...
What model Gibson mandolin was used to record this CD? What pick does Danny use? Anyone know?

Someone asked what mandolin Danny used on this recording.
The mandolin is an F-5 Gibson, Master Model. It is a
late model Master, with absolutely beautiful woods, and
an exquisite sound that is hard to believe. It is the opinion
of some people ( myself included ), that this is probably
the best Master to come out of Nashville yet. I speak from
experience, because I owned it for a while. Danny is a
good friend, and we trade on instruments quite often. I
let him have it back on a trade, before he went on tour
with Dolly recently. And I've been cryin' ever since. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Just received my copy in the mail today. I'd strongly recommend this to anyone that's into high-octane original bluegrass instrumentals. Danny is quite the player and writing a bunch of good tunes like this only shows his dedication to his craft. Impressive effort.

I just recieved my copy of Mandolin Orchard and amazing is all I can say. When I was a kid(only about 10 years ago)I had a New Tradition cassete that was more bluegrass than gospel it had a johnny cash song about a prison. I wore the tape out and threw it away years ago and now i can't find another copy any one have any ideas.

Danny sometimes has some of his product in our retail store. You can call the store at 615-514-2200x4 and see if they have any at the current time. If not, I'm sure he can get some for the store. The Mandolin Orchard CD is available there now.

I just wanted to respond to the question about what mandolin was used to record "Mandolin Orchard". #All tracks except one were recorded with a December 2003 Gibson Master Model (regular projection run). #Bonaparte's Retreat was recorded with a 2002 Sam Bush model Gibson. #I use J-74 EXP strings and a Dunlop Ultex 1.14 picks. #

I'm sorry to take so long reponding, but it's been mighty busy around Gibson since I returned from the Dolly Parton tour.

Thank you for the kind words and support for the project --I appreciate it very much.
