I get a good many e-mails and a heap of promo stuff from classical guitarists. This is one of the odder of that lot: Thakur Chakrapani Singh (http://www.classicalguitar-veena.com/). Get one of Shankar's daughters to take up banjo, give a call to Shrinivas, I believe there are a good many Indian violinists, and you've got a rather bizarre bluegrass ensemble.

There are lots of Indian (Hindustani) slide guitarists out there... Many more of them than there are Carnatic mandolinists, at least! I don't know if the two traditions ever get together. I just received the "Concert for George" DVD for Christmas (yay!) so I'm looking forward to seeing the Shankar Orchestra bit. I take it both Vishwa Mohan Bhatt (slide guitar) and Shehashish Mazumdar (mandolin) were part of that group.

As far as Indian Bluegrass.. I know they have a multitude of gourd/skin head instruments.. I'm trying to picture Cedric Rainwater on Tambura.
