Nice one... He didn't make it along to Stage 2 which is where was stuck for the weekend, except a quick lunch break where I raced off to chat to some of the instrument makers.
Hope to catch his Blue mandolin show soon.

Cool. I've always liked that song in its many variations. What language is he speaking?

I don't know what language he's singing in, but his mandolin playing is in a universal language. I love the duel soloing between the fiddle and mandolin around the four minute mark-- great stuff, thanks for posting.

Great!
Jimi Hocking is a great player and a super cool guy!
You can listen to his great Blue Mandolin album here (http://www.myspace.com/jimihockingmusic/music/albums/blue-mandolin-10907760) (US only, I think).
And here's the very cool mandolin page (http://www.jimihocking.com/mandolins.htm) from his website.
Oh, and Heather Stewart's Get Your Fingers Off It! album is killer! Great fiddle and fantastic vocals from Heather. You can listen to three of the songs off of it here (http://www.heatherstewart.com.au/fr_press.cfm).

What language is he speaking?

I believe that is actually Saturnian, the language the song was written in - similar to American English but a bit cooler. Jimi (Hendrix) was not of this world, but from Saturn, specifically South Saturn Delta, and would occasionally lapse into his home dialect when the vibes were just so.

Good going on this, especially on an amplified acoustic rather than electric mandolin. Even threw in the behind-the-head routine there. It's fun to do that - people don't expect it from a mandolin. I used to do that in an old country duo, on "Folsom Prison Blues," as the solo is so easy and rock-solid I could count on not messing it up. People would really hoot when I did that - good fun! :mandosmiley:

Hey - Wasn't meaning to make this about me, just thought it was cool to someone do the behind-the-head thang besides me. Thought I was the only one nutty enough to go there. Good on ya, mate! Rock on! :mandosmiley:
