Here is a youtube I posted where I recorded Ashoken Farewell. The first mando break is on my $280 chinese mando, after a good setup, with all the abalone inlay. The guitar break is on a 67 Martin D18 and the second mando break is on my Morgan Monroe distressed wideneck. The recording was done using Multitrack Studio http://www.multitrackstudio.com/.

Please let me know what I need to improve on the mandolin techniques, right hand tremolo, any criticisms will be taken constructively! I need all the help I can get...thanks!

I think it's perfectly lovely and I wouldn't change a thing.

Wonderful story about your dogs; thank you for sharing both your story and your music.

You don't need my help. That was great. I don't know how you could improve your tremolo -- it sounds perfect to me as it is. Fine playing and a very touching story about the dogs. I love it.

Btw, where did you find that poem at the end? Very poignant.

Wonderfully touching.
Rescue dogs make such great pets/friends.
Thank you for sharing.

I thought it was nice. I like your tremolo. Very nice.

I think your treatment can benefit from a little more drama and dynamics. A little weepiness would not hurt. Ashoken Farewell is a tune that can benefit from some showey drama. Not excessive, let the tune dictate what and where. Don't impose drama on the tune; convey the sadness and wistfullness in the tune itself. Think of it perhaps this way: "don't play it for me, sell it to me."

Just a thought.

ok by me - playing at a slow tempo is hard and you can do it. nice, woody sounding mandolin - any chance of a photo? mutts are great and black lab mutts are the absolute greatest.

I thought it sounded good and I have to say the video touched me. We just lost one of our dogs 4 weeks ago. She would have been 13 in June. She was a mixed breed of black lab, blue heeler and one or two other breeds thrown in for good measure.85657

Thanks folks for the feedback...they were a sorrowful loss for us, but they have been replaced about 4 years ago with some as close a breed as I could find.
Pete...I found the photo online...
jeffd...more dynamics I can do, drama confounds me!
Bill...I'm very sorry for your loss...it sounds like she was about the same type of dog mix and personality...intelligence like a two year old kid, smart, playful. She looks similar too, got that old gray beard...

billkilpatrick...here are some photos of the mando on the first break...

The mic I used is a condensor lapel mic from radioshack, the kind you pin on your tie speaking to group.

That was absolutely beautiful. As a dog lover you brought a tear to my eye as i laughed at some of the poses. There is nothing better than coming home to friends after a hard day at the office. I love them and thank you for sharing them with us. Love the mando's too, that Chinese one is very classy.
Cheers
