We've all feared it. That ohnosecond when your balance seems wonky or the mandolin seems about to fall or actually does fall. Imagine how this guy feels after falling on his Stradavarius (http://www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertainment/classical/news/virtuosos-trip-destroys-priceless-stradivarius-781531.html)!

On my worst, clumsiest, Chrissy from Three's Company Day, I know I'll never feel as bad as this guy did. He might even feel worse than the guy that tipped this over.

It's the owner's fault, Jamie. That rocket should have been in its case.

Too funny, that's one I've avoided... "I barely brushed it" yeah right...

That's a good point Mick, I wouldn't pay for the satelite damage. I mean it was in the middle of the jam walkway. ;)

I can just imagine the man on the left saying, “Well Jim, time to get out the forklift again. It’s times like these that make me wish I would’ve picked up mandolin."

Jamie, that was not a Strad.

The article was incorrect, then? Or do you mean the satellite?

Garrett fell on his Guadagnini violin down a flight of stairs. Yes the article is wrong. It also happened several years ago.

It didn't fall over, that's where the satelite landed when it fell out of orbit. Thankfully, no one was hurt :)

Well maybe this a separate incident. Maybe he fell on his Strad as well?

Maybe this guy is Tim's cousin. :)

Yep, he could be a serial violin violator.

Anything can be fixed ! I bet it wasn't as bad as Bills mando. Send it to Frank Ford. Being left without a suitable replacement almost brought a tear to my eye (from laughter) ! Poor guy can't play an 'average' fiddle anymore. Whatever happen to 'the show must go on !" ?? ;)

Here's the article (http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/magazine/7244441.stm)on how the guy broke his Guadagnini falling down the stairs.

Jamie

Edit: The Independent Paper seems to be misrecycling old news. Still falling down on your Guadagnini would still be a bad day.

Many years ago I slipped on the ice as I was carrying my 23 Gibson, in its original case, across the driveway. I dropped the instrument and fell on it.

The instrument was not hurt, I was pretty badly bruised, but recovered unscathed, except for my ego. You see I was escorting a date, and trying to impress her.

I had a customer last year who dropped off his bass for some work and was supposed to pickup my best carved bass as a loaner. He was running a little late, so he borrowed a different bass from his ex wife. On the way to the gig he got into a car accident that totaled her bass- snapped the neck in half, broke the fingerboard extension, and did a LOT of damage to the body. Somehow he still managed to arrived late for the gig, and borrow another bass to finish up the night!

That NASA pic is very interesting to me. And maybe not exactly in the same category as "it just tipped over". It would appear that the fixture was supposed hold the satellite perpendicular to the floor in one position, by the looks of the way the base plate is tilted, and the unequal lengths of the arms attached to that base.

And knowing how we used to assemble equipment, there were different crews doing different processes. So did someone forget the bolt the frame to the base, and it fell over when they tried to tilt it? Or was it done and was prepped to be lifted off the fixture and some crew came in and took out the mounting bolts, and someone decided that they needed to do just one more thing and started to tilt it back down?

I would think somebody couldn't sit for a while after that butt chewing.

Dang. Did she divorce him again?

The NASA indecent was an example of bodies. Everybody thought somebody had bolted the satellite to the deck when nobody did it. But Somebody sure got their butt chewed out for it.

Freudianism of the week, there...

I've always thought The Sickening Crunch would be a good name for a punk band.

I swear I was reading the follow ups on this thread and my kid fell down the stairs. He is 6'3 and 200lbs so it made a lot of noise! He only bruised his knee(hopefully).
