Greetings all. Here is a mandolute played by Hakim Hammadouche who works with Rachid Taha. Where can I purchase such a rare bird?

Greeting mizmor67. I too would love one of those things. Did you have any success buying one? If so, could you let me know where you got it?

Honestly, it looks like a German flatback mandola with a big body more than anything else.

They are quite common in France (as well as Algeria) and were/are made there, probably more than in Algeria I think. Essentially a mandocello - mandole in french - and even made by some of the Mirecourt factories such as Pattenote as well as individual makers. I found one in a flea market in Paris a couple of years ago, but I wasn't allowed to buy it :(. There was a website run by someone (I think of Nth African background) in Paris who bought and sold them, but the website seems to have disappeared.

Shouldn't be too hard to find one in France. Anywhere else could be tricky.
