My wife's grandfather played this Gibson mandolin in a bluegrass band in the forties .We believe that it is a 1932 model. It has 627B stamped inside. It is in excellent condition(hasn't been played in over 30 years) and has all original parts. I am trying to get some idea of the value for insurance purposes. We live in the Atlanta area. Any opinions or advise on having it appraised would be appreciated. My son and I both play the guitar and we are learning to play this wonderful instrument. The sound is incedible. Thanks.

The 627B appears to be the Factory order Number and that is listed as a 1936 A-75. Let me look a little further.

Yes, it does appear be to be an A-75. I'm sure some folks will pop in with a valuation but if it was me and I wanted an appraisal for insurance purposes, I'd contact George Gruhn at Gruhn's Guitar in Nashville (www.gruhn.com) It will cost you a few dollars for the appraisal via the Internet but you'll have a document that will hold up in an insurance claim. Don't try to sell it for as much as the appraisal, it will never happen.

Nice mandolin.

For an Internet Appraisal? If all they are looking for is an insurance appraisal I always go with George. He's pretty impeachable in a claim argument and he always appraises higher than market.

I was thinking of a walk-in appraisal, perhaps.
