This mando was found in a local pawn shop by a buddy of mine. Anyone know anything about it? Thanks, TigerMal

Man, that is one ugly mandolin, I'm glad I've never met one in person.

If I have to guess it may be one of these:

No doubt it's Sam's work, all show no go. They make a nice wall hanger. There's an antique mall near by who has 2 of them hanging in one of the kiosks and I'm thinking they have been there for at least 3 years with no takers. I picked one up to play it and one strum made me put it back. If you like inlays it's sure got that covered..:))

Try searching on "antoniotsai" and/or "inlaidartist." You'll find lots of disparaging remarks about these mandolin-shaped objects.

I do believe it's the original Shmergel Devastator. Be careful, it's a hypothetical mandolin (they can have temperamental truss rods). On the upside, it can also double as a literary device.

Definitely one of Antonio or Sam's pieces. Looking at e-bay will show you what they cost new. The inlays often pop outbut, it can be a passable instrument to learn on. It may be more serviceable as wall art than an instrument in the long run.

Not a bad instrument for the price - shipping from Vietnam is usually more than the mandolin sells for. The thing to watch for is the top or back splitting - they don't do a good job of seasoning the maple...

Take a look through these (http://www.mandolincafe.com/forum/search.php?query=inlaidartist&exactname=0&starteronly=0&forumchoice%5B%5D=&prefixchoice%5B%5D=&childforums=1&titleonly=0&searchdate=0&beforeafter=after&do=process) threads, you'll see a whole lot of them.

It might have been made by Bruce Wei as well.

I handled a few and I don't call them mandolins...

Thank you all very much. I told my buddy it looks like a wall-hanger to me. TigerMal
