Having just found a Paul Hathway octave mandolin irresistable I'm wondering where to start. Can anybody recommend something instructional to get me started? My main interest is playing Celtic music. Thanks

Dog--when I started to play octave I picked up a copy of Roger Landes' CD--Dragon Reels--some great stuff to listen to, and I got a lot of playing ideas out of it.

Also check out 'Han's Irish Bouzouki Home Page' on the web. You can download chords, scales, etc. A great resource.

You might find John McGann's book Octave Mandolin and Bouzouki useful. It's published by Mel Bay. Plenty of good tunes in both standard and tab notation, good discussion of the merits of various tuning schemes, and an CD is included. Well worth the money.
