I was listening to my Sweeney Todd revival recording, and I wanted to play some Sondheim songs on my Eastwood tenor. I came across the "Revised Songbook," on amazon, but of course those are for six string alcolytes. I can't currently read sheets to save the life of me anyhow. I have my tenor tuned in the Irish tenor banjo tuning. Has anyone else thought of Sweeney Todd tenor interpretations? Or am I stuck on my own planet here? The only chords I know are Gm, G, E and C, but I think it would be neat. I love Sondheim as a songwriter, (Sunday in the Park with George is one of my favorites,)

I've sung a lot of Sondheim - and you're going to need A LOT more chords under belt to play along. On some of the simpler songs you may be able to simplify them enough to accompany yourself, but there are definitely easier places to start than Sondheim. Maybe try Send in the Clowns?

To be more specific, for Sweeney Todd, you need to learn chop chords...
