I was just wondering how many members, if any, do not play the mandolin. Does anybody just like it enough to hang out around here?

Do I qualify if I don't play mandolin well?

If so, a lot more of us would be replying!

Surely there's some lost b@nj* player, aimlessly wandering the topics ... struggling with the mouse, trying to post the question, "Where the heck am I?"

Just kidding, of course. Happy Friday.

At the risk of being banished from the community I must admit that I cannot play a note. My appreciation for a few select players and the beauty of the instrument led me to take a crack at building. I personally would rather spend my time learning to build than learning to play. I am here because there is no greater gathering of knowledgable folks, on the subject of mandolins, anywhere. I intend to rely on the srutiny of experienced players to help me evaluate the tone of the instruments I produce. I'm sure there are several other builders who don't play much themselves.

LOL! Thanks, I appreciate that. But I'm a new builder and I promise you, you don't want to eat what I've got to feed you quite yet.

I visited often over a year or so before I got a mandolin, researching brands, types etc., then I joined up, so I had a phase where I was here, but not a player of the 8 stringed wonder.

I'm just an upright bass player, but I play in a bluegrass band & this is by far the best discussion group/message board for bluegrass info that I've found, regardless of the fact that it is a mandolin site.

I don't think I'll ever pick up the mandolin (knowing that it's "just like a bass…but backwards!" doesn't help) but I enjoy chatting with other musicians no matter what instrument they play. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Plus I always enjoy hearing someone preach the gospel according to St. Monroe! http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mandosmiley.gif You don't hear that so often on rockabillybass.com!
