Julian Lage was featured on NPR's Piano Jazz Rising Stars (http://www.npr.org/2012/02/09/145512570/julian-lage-on-piano-jazz-rising-stars) recently, and although he is known as a phenomenal jazz guitarist who played in Gary Burton's band at a very young age, in the first part of the program he talks about playing with David Grisman, Bela Fleck, and Chris Thile. Pretty interesting. And he plays a bluegrass composition of his own called Greylighting, which is amazing. The part where he talks about this starts around 18:25. Really worth a listen.

I love Julian Lage. Definitely one of my favorite guitar players. His first album has a few songs with Bela and Chris on them. Pretty dissonant at times but really interesting.

I completely agree. Both his albums are stellar.

Julian Lage is amazing. I think he teaches at Berkeley now? If not he should!!! He is to guitar what Thile is to mandolin. They both seem to be very similar in their passion for their music, how they play, and their mannerisms while playing. I really would love to see Lage and Thile collaborate on something together someday.

Check out the Julian Lage Tiny Desk Concert here (http://www.npr.org/event/music/137646119/julian-lage-trio-tiny-desk-concert). Really fun show.

That would be Berklee (College of Music/Boston) rather than Berkeley (as in CA). He is a killer player, capable of playing in any genre. There is a cool Youtube vid of him playing "Cattle in the Cane" with Chris Eldridge...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qKU83oB837o

Doc, thanks for the correction. I knew it was Berklee (Boston) but for some reason had a brain fart. Corrected.....or not....guess you can only edit a post for so long? Didn't know that.
