That is some VERY nice flame! I hope it sounds as great as it looks and I am sure it does because those G-boys know what they are doing.

Wow that is a great back and I must admit I too really like that chair. How can I find a F9 with a back like that?

I don't know about the F-9, but you can find the chair at Stickley.com; it's a repro in the Arts & Crafts style. I guess I lucked out on the flame back; I think the newer ones have better wood for the backs. Mine was built in April of this year.

Wow Prof... that does look sharp! (The chair too!) Looks like you've got some flame in the sides too. Mine is pretty bland looking, but sounds great. You scored! Any pics of the top?

I have some, but it doesn't look any different than any other F-9. As a matter of fact, the photos make it look washed out. Maybe I'll post some more pics of the chair and the other Arts & Crafts furniture I have!

All of those have more flame than my '02 F-9, they look great. I noticed at the local GC, that the 9 they had, was flamed very nicely.

My new one doesn't look like that, but I'll see what the new gloss coat that's being applied does to bring it out. It's really for dad, not for me. I like the matte finish. I have enough shiny ones.

Are you literally having a top coat put on, or are you going to apply some oil? The thing about these 9's is that the coat of matte finish is very thin, which helps the tone. I'm thinking that if you put gloss over it, it may in fact change the tone. I'd think this over a bit more before doing it; it seems like it'd be hard to reverse!

Here's the back of my A-9. I need to get a real digital camera. This picture was taken with my video palmcorder.

Prof-

I'm having one more thin coat put on and buffed by Johhny Rushing in Tennessee. He's assured me it won't be to heavy. I'm aware of the possible tone implications. #This was supposed to be mine, but I think I've lost it to Dad already. It's what he wants. And if it keeps him playing at 78 with parkinsons disease (not easy), then I'll see it when I visit. Maybe I should grab up another one..........

Rick those ebony buttons really dress it up to the 9's http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
I have seriously got to add a set to the Grovers on my F9. Nice touch for your father; I am sure he will be very apreciative for the mandolin and for his son. Lp

I really like the look. Those are the stew mac buttons; I've got the grover buttons from Ken, and they are made thicker to accommodate the grover shaft. They are a "D" shape, but are virtually the same size. The pictures don't do it justice (or I don't know how to take them right). The finish on the front was taken down as a result of some difficulty but it came out real nice and was stained and sealed to give it a shaded /light burst look.
