That is a beauty. What is the recipe? Red spruce and sugar maple, per Will's preferred formula?

That's almost enough to give me a case of Scroll MAS! Enjoy that thing!! :mandosmiley:

Congrats! And I agree Shaun - that gives me a bad case of S-MAS!

It would be the Red spruce and sugar maple. Thanks for all the nice comments.

This mandolin calls for soundclips/videos on this thread to make it complete.

Congratulations! Looks fantastic. I took delivery of Kimble #187, an A5 in June 2011 and it is absolutely sounding fantastic these days. The Kimble tone is intoxicating and has really changed the way I'm playing and thinking about the instrument. Best of luck with it!

Woo-hoo! :disbelief:

I'll second that.

Will lives about 45 minutes from me...thats a good thing ;0) Although I will probably never be lucky enought to own a Kimble I am happy for those who do.

how long is a "very long wait"?

Well you have to consider that I've know Will for about six years and have longed for one of his Mando's since I played the first one at his shop. When we lived in Ohio, we were about 5 miles from his place so I was fortunate to see quite a few of his master pieces over the years. The timing on a build is his to call based on his back log; but in my case it was right at 15 months from order.

15 months? That ain't bluegrass long, especially for such a lovely instrument. My Gils took the same amount of time.

Hi Don!

Congratulations and welcome to the Kimble Club. You have one fantastic mandolin. I did a quick test drive before Wheel shipped it to you. It sounds spectacular. Enjoy--Mark.

the man can make an instrument.....good fit and finish and great tone from the ones I've played......I've owned 4 of them and now have 2 that I play..

I think he makes a fantastic instrument and with the cost.......THE best value in the upper end instruments

...like how many $...?

It is my understanding that they are now $9,900 with a Calton.....

Now don't hold me to that number exactly.....but when I can buy 2. something worth of Nuggets or Gilchrists looks like a value to me....that said.....and not wanting this thread to get hijacked away from the joy being expressed ....I'll say no more....

I recently received number 191. I asked Will to go for a full-throttle Lloyd Loar vibe. The results exceeded all expectations. I have some picture that I would like to add, but they are here on my IPhone. Anyone know how to pop them up?

If she is to busy practicing the fiddle, use the Icloud to get it to your computer and then upload from there

Will, in my humble opinion, is top tier and deserves to be uttered in the same class as Nugget or Gil or Dude. His mandolins are an incredible value.

I may be one of the few to compete with Gary H. for total number owned--5 total (#10, #18, a J (#62? can't recall), an octave, and my current #138 A5). I agree w/ Perry, my playing changed a lot on #138, which is a younger sibling to Statman's.

I have had the opportunity to talk with Mr Kimble about his mandolins and his influences and the man has done his reseach and is definitely knowledgable about mandolins. He is an approachable and nice individual. The mandolins I have seen and heard are excellent. Congradulations on your new mandolin, I am sure you will enjoy all it brings to you.
