There is SO much great info for Loars and Master Models, both here and in the case of the MM, on Facebook. I have decided to start, and moderate, a FB page specifically for pics, research and info on the various eras of recent Varnish Ferns, in case anyone here might be interested!

Just checked out the page on Facebook, and looking forward to seeing more information going up on it. Just a quick question from a Fern newbie such as myself: Were Ferns model usually lacquered? Is that why the emphasis on the varnished models?

Yep...Varnished Ferns have historically been short run, special order instruments. Also a way to have a varnished Gibson at a price significantly less than the MMs. Some, my '09 included, even have red spruce tops like a MM. Most are stock Sitka top Ferns finished with varnish. Great sleeper mandos worthy of their own forum.
