My name is Josh. I just picked up a mandolin about three months ago, and have been lurking the mandolin cafe ever since. I work in a local used and vintage guitar shop and am a full time student in business school. I've played guitar for a while, but my main gig was always upright bass. I picked up the mando because I had a buddy with a honky tonk band that was looking for a mandolin player. Two weeks later, I was on stage with them. I picked up a really cheap JB Player a/e mando that we had gotten in the shop used. A month later, I had my mandolin at the Muddy Roots festival in TN where it met the wrong end of some drunk dudes boot. With a little bit of glue and a whole lot of swearing and prayin, I got her put back together. I would have to say that at this point, I am full blown addicted to this instrument. I play a few hours a day, everyday. I've been talking to a few guys about trading some of my upright basses for mandolins and I am really pleased with the two offers I have on the table now. Hopefully soon I'll be playing something much nicer. Here are a couple action shots of me playing my back-from-the-dead JB Player. I really appreciate everyone for having such an open community here. I learned so much so fast just by reading this forum everyday. Unfortunately, you guys also sent me on the forever pick quest!!

Welcome to the best mandolin place on earth. You will find all you need to know about acoustics and electrics here. But I must ask, is the shirt a custom made shirt or one off the rack? And if off the rack where can I get one?

If you've $85, there's a similar one here. (http://www.sheplers.com/scully-mens-skull-roses-embroidered-retro-western-shirt.html)

It's a Panhandle Slim shirt. http://www.pfiwestern.com/pfi/western.wear/itemdetl.html?item=V6S5418%20BLK&utm_medium=shoppingengine&utm_source=googlebase&cvsfa=1135&cvsfe=2&cvsfhu=5636533534313820424c4b
Unfortunately they dont make them anymore. I happen to find it on the clearance rack at an RCC in Florida on my honeymoon. I think I paid $19 for it. Muhahahaha

Thanks guys. As far as hanging on to the basses, I have 3, and they take up a lot of space. I've been really happy with some of the offers I have gotten. I will keep my main gig bass, a 1978 engelhardt s-1. I really love my kays, but they don't get played, so they gotta go. I believe instruments are made to be played, and if I can't play them, I need to trade them fro something I will play.

Yeah man, I know. I'm only saying--as a bass player myself--that it's easier to "make a living" (always a good business decision) with that axe ;)
