Just got back from a private party where Johnny Staats and his band were the entertainment. I had heard recordings but not experienced this great player live before. It was a nice set-up with no p.a. system, the seating was casual and the acoustics were great. At one point, the guitarist lost his pick mid-song and I handed him one of mine to finish the song. It was a great evening of entertainment.

Cool, Jim.

Was he playing a Buckeye?

No, he was playing his Red Diamond. It sounded good. It looked like it could have benefited from a pickguard but that's honest distressing! I like the smaller abreviated pickgaurds for such protection.

A while back I saw a couple of videos for Guinness World Records including banjo, guitar and violin but no mandolin. In my search on you tube for the fastest mandolin player, Johnny Staats, kept coming up. An amazing player.
