Hey folks, there has been a scarcity of blues talk here lately. #I got a new CD, 'Legacy', by Guy Davis. #I like it a lot. #It's all acoustic and has a little mando on 4-5 songs. #
# #This guy is a treasure; some of his own songs and some classics such as Come Back Baby and See See Rider.
# Guy Davis makes me want to put on my blues hat and get out my guitar, mando and harp harness. #
# #Good wishes, # #http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif Jack

No mando, but this guy is awesome....Richard Johnston. #I think he's from Memphis. #He plays guitar, bass drum, snare/hi hat, and sings all at the same time. #Here's his website: #Richard Johnston (http://www.richardjohnston.com/html/home.html)

Also no mando, but INCREDIBLE Texas blues trio of brothers from my neck of the woods (Willie Nelson's favorite band):

Los Lonely Boys (http://www.loslonelyboys.org/)

You need to get their CD just to watch the video "extra" jam on there. #Like Richard Johnston, hearing it is good, but seeing it is unbelievable.

however, as we're on a mando board, tell more about guy davis-never heard of him. does he play mando on the disc??? is he an old school blues guy?? always looking for mando blues recordings.

went to davis' site- no mention of mando and what he plays other than guitar, so i'm assuming its someone else.

where are the great blues mando players of today?http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/rock.gif wont someone with some national clout take the reins and start the movement!!!! sorry, got a tad heated!http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/blues.gif

On 'Legacy', Guy Davis plays mandolin, 6 and 12 string guitars, harp and banjo; sometimes 2-3 instruments on a song. #Mando is least featured, but it's there. #This 'Guy' makes even banjo sound sweet and bluesy.
# I found the CD at a Barnes and Noble book store in Des Moines, Iowa. #They have the setup where you can put on head phones and hear samples of the songs on the CD. # That's a great deal. #It has saved me from some bad purchases and in this case, helped me find a great blues man and CD pretty much by accident- liking the CD cover and giving it a try. # #http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif Jack

To listen to samples of Guy Davis's Legacy, go to Amazon.com. Please note that the first song on the CD is rap (with Guy's young son) AND blues.
The rest of the songs are blues or bluesy folky (IMHO). Guy plays some mando on track 3 and other players play mando on several tracks. Give it at try. Jack
