10th September 2011 at Exmouth Arms, London NW1.

Cellar Upstairs Folk Club, www.cellarupstairs.org.uk/ (http://www.cellarupstairs.org.uk/).

Country: British. Style: American Traditional Folk - Old Time & Bluegrass.

Lineup: Pete Stanley (banjo/v).

Pete Stanley was first taught the banjo by Peggy Seeger, and later developed an interest in the 3 finger Bluegrass style of playing as well as the Folk Clawhammer one. He is unusual in playing Bluegrass without picks, using his fingernails. In the 1960s he was part of the Tennessee Three (with Dave and Robb Mangunan from California) and, for four years, in a duo with Wizz Jones. Since that decade he was performed, on and off, with Brian Golby. He has been a banjo maker since attending a course at the London School of Furniture (now London Guildhall University). He played both open back and resonator Banjos, with occasional vocals in a half talking, half singing style.
