I'll be in Dublin the first weekend of December and want to catch some good music there. Can anyone recommend a good pub for celtic music or any concerts taking place on that weekend?

I've only been thrice, and only caught some trad in pubs in Temple Bar. They were performances by working bands for the tourist crowd (ourselves included), but it was definitely high quality music. If you are interested in finding a session, check out TheSession.org's (http://thesession.org) session section; they have five active sessions listed in Dublin.

P.S.: while you are there, definitely visit the Temple Bar area. It has a great night life scene, and plenty of good pubs and restaurants. Each time we stayed at Jury's Inn at Christchurch; they provide nice lodgings and are relatively inexpensive, and it was only a short stumble back to our room after we called it a night. #http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sleepy.gif

As much as the Temple Bar (in Temple Bar) is obviuosly a tourist magnet, I also heard 2 sets there on my trip. Stopped in for a pint only to get organized, and found some fellows playing their hearts out. You'll be rubbing elbows with mostly non-locals, but I'd stick my head (again).

From The" target="_blank">http://[URL=http/....RL=http (http://<a href=) go to Slattery's in Rathmines on a Thursday night if you want to hear a good instrumental session. Apparently the Temple Bar area is much more touristy.

As for me, I can't stand Dublin and much prefer the west, especially in the winter when you will be the only tourist and will have a lot more fun in the sessions. Try Clare and Dingle, just stay on the plane and fly to Shannon. Ennis is only 17 miles away from the airport and you could spend a week there sessioning every night.

I'd rather see more of the country, but my girlfriend booked the tickets for us to have a romantic weekend. This will be my first time in Ireland, but probably not my last.

Don't worry Clarence, Dublin's a blast: it's a big city, but you'll still know you are in Ireland.
