It was probably a scam ad. Forget eBay, try placing a "Gibson wanted" ad in the Classifieds here. Be specific about the style and age of mandolin you want (A style? F style? Oval hole? F holes? Vintage? Recent?) and your price range. Sellers will come a-knocking (via e-mail, of course).
