I've been wondering for a while why it is that D'Addario makes their light gauge (J62) only in 80/20 bronze (brass) and the medium/heavy ones (J74/75) only in phosphor bronze. Is there a fundamental reason for this, to do with the mechanical properties of the alloys at the different string tensions, or is it just a question of supply and demand? Why not make a light gauge string in phosphor bronze or a heavy one in brass?

you can make bronze strings real real light. italian strings are often bronze , very light.
I dont know about d'addario. I wonder why dont they make classical gauges? seems kinda silly with an italian name, not to make italian strings, eh?http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/rock.gif
