I finally recieved my special order of Homer and Jethro's "Playing it Straight" and "It ain't Necessarily Square" albums on one cd. It's being manufactured by BMG Japan and I ordered it from a Spanish company called CDTotal.com. No financial interest...Just good tunes!

i got a copy last year. sure sounds better than my 20+ year old tape. plus, those liner notes make for facinating reading...

The only downside to the whole deal are the liner notes...they're in Japanese.

It really upsets me that you have to get these CD's from another country.

yeah, we really have a throwaway culture here in the u.s. i'm really into vintage country music, and almost all of it that's available is from foreign labels, like bear family in germany. black jazz and blues musicians have been moving to europe for years just to get the respect and recognition they so richly deserve.
turn on the radio- garth brooks is "classic country"?!?!

That CD is killer. I tabbed out Jethro's breaks on "Liza" and worked it all out. Learning those opened my eyes to some new ideas, to say the least. I got a guitar player to learn the chords -- not trivial either with all the m7b5 and b9 chords changing every beat -- and played it in a mandolin competition at a large fiddler's convention. Very fun, throwing that hard swinging tune in between all the Sally Goodin's and Salt Creeks.

"....all them... chords.." - Homer was NO SLOUCH on rhythm guitar either ; not just "open", but full/closed, 'barre' chords!! http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mandosmiley.gif http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
