Apitius lovers

If you are interested in my '97 Grand Classic, contact me via personal message. Oliver makes great instruments - I just need the $$ now . . .

Oh no, Apitius is copying the Gibson head stock inlays http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/rock.gif

They make beautiful mandolins, thats for sure!

..If I were to build mandos it would have to be in a shop like that...when I think of an independent builder I think of a shop like that...just seems right to me..

Stern, I noticed the tone bar thing too. Looks like the treble tone bar is not the standard profile, but has a big scallop out of the center part with two high points about 1/3 of the way from the ends, like a suspension bridge (akin to some guitar braces?). Bass tone bar looks standard. I wonder what the effects of that are?

There was some discussion on the CoMando builders summit last year regarding scalloped tone bars. I can't remember what the exact philosophy is, but I can vouch for the results. Oliver has been scalloping his tone bars for a long time. The 3 mandolins that I have played of his all have a very complex tone, great bass & sparkly highs. I have always wondered why more experimentation has not been done in this area. As you have stated, it is not uncommon in guitar bracing.
