I'm surprised that a luthier of Steve's caliber would make such an obvious error as to leave two strings off this instrument!

Tell me more! With that finish, I gather it's something he made in the last couple of years? I'm mainly a guitarist, so I'm intrigued.

Maybe it's just me but the F-holes look a bit rough. I am surprised to see that.

Look at the entire body outline. I think the roughness is in the photo.

mick, I agree but it is not enough to make the f-holes look so bad.

yeah, that photo is doing funky things .. here's a cleaner shot of one of the f's, click twice... The 16jr is the continuation of the last few runs in which Steve's built several jr. series mandolins ... stripped down, non-adorned little beasts.

The whole photo looks slightly out of focus or shot with a dirty lens or something, that or the conversion software botched the file resizing, definitely doesnt look like just the F holes on my monitor. But something does look not right there.

I have absolutely no business owning one, but a Gil archtop has been on my bucket list for a long time. Talk about a rare bird and one that people won't let fly away once they get one...

it is a rare bird, Mark. ...believe Steve has a strong preference to building mandolins, but that 16 has got to be good... ;)

I've heard tale of several 16" style guitars being built, I've only heard one and it was simply amazing.

... here's an early shot (upper left) ...believe you're correct, several built but not a lot of them... this is the first 'jr. .. gotta love it.

Forgive the impertinent question, but does anyone know about what he's asking for a 16jr?

Alright. This is where the owner contacts me and tells me he needs to sell it for $5k. Operators are standing by . . . .
