i picked up my new mando the other day, and i am totaly impressed with my newly aquired scroll...... http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

its a bitterroot, however i went to town on the design, and weber did not slack!
translucent walnut finish (no burst) on fern quality maple (double upgrade!) the flame on the back is beautiful and since it is a bitterroot style it doesnt have binding on the back, wich shows off the wood even more.
oval sound hole with binding and rosette ( took a lil convincing but they did it)
fat rectangle inlay starting at the 1st fret, extended and scooped
nice inlays on the headstock,
im not sure if this is normal or whatever but i did request that the truss rod cover to be a peice of wood, and it adds to the classy look of this mandolin
upgraded to nickel hardware
and man oh man does it sound sweet! its so solidly built and drop jaw gorgeous the people at weber rocked my world.

my pop has made some guitars in his day and knows some about woods and the first thing he said when i opend the case across the room "that is some nice wood!"

higly reccomended...
i would post a picture but i dont know how to do that upload thing etc.

its got some opening up to do yet but man its sweet!

Congratulations! I'll bet it's a joy to play! How's the action? The couple Webers I played had fairly high action. I bet it was a lotta fun designing it, then seeing it when it was finished.

Weber really does do fine work, and their woods are great!
I have a Sage #1 octave that I love! Simple, but very nice looking and man, the tone! A fun instrument to play.

I was going to get a custom bitteroot, in fact I had talked to Sound To Earth and planned it out but didn't have the dough to pull it off. I did manage to pick up a Gibson F9
for a really nice price and I'm happy as a hog! Straight off the shelf but I like the simple looks, the one I found had really nice flame on the back and really cool looking spruce on the top, plus the fit and finish on it are great.
I'd love to compare the two, I've played a Gallatin but not a Bitteroot.

Have fun with the new mando, it sounds like a very nice one!

I'm pretty sure I got to see this mando, just because I was lucky enough to be in the store when it was delivered. John, based on your description, it MUST have been yours, because I've never seen another like it. Folks, this is an absolutely STUNNING mandolin! I just stood there with my mouth hanging open!

Don't worry, John, I begged Joe to let me play it, but he wouldn't let me so much as breathe on it. I may have to get one just like it!
