I worked on this instrument for a Canadian customer. Full write-up and photos available by clicking here (http://antebelluminstruments.blogspot.com/2011/06/c1915-giuseppe-quaglia-pocket-mandolin.html).

It plays nice! (now) It sounds pretty good, for its size, as well.

Maple bowl, spruce? top.

Cute, Jake! Rare that you see Italian versions of these... most seem to be German.

Jake, I have a few mandolini normale from G Quaglia (as well as figlio, Mario) in my files. Here is a piccolini from his amico, Puglisi, one of only a few I have on file. But y'all are right, not a lot of these from Italy.

I've owned a couple of the German ones. Kind of cute, but I've never had pockets big enough for them. ;)

Nice one Jake, interesting instrument, but I don't think my pockets are big enough either ;)

We all need to wear those old great coats, then our pockets would be plenty huge... :D

Cute wee mandolin, nice work Jake! - Am I the only one who thinks it looks a bit like an oar from behind?

Cheers,
Jill
