Hello all and good afternoon! I just wanted to start off by introducing myself and explaining my motivation for joining the forum.

I am a young, military guy residing in Montana who's got a nice break for a little while. I currently play the guitar but got some inspiration to craft something with my bare hands.... that creativity we're given as men by God.

Why a mandolin? The craftsmanship seems a little more intense and in need of a lot more.... "love!?" I appreciate the sound, look, feel and art of the mandolin; how two can look the exact same, yet, have two completely different sounds.

I have my wood ordered from Orcas Island Tonewoods on the way and am in need of some plans. I was looking for some pretty accurate Lloyd Loar A5 or F5 plans to start. I would appreciate all of the info and advice I can get ranging from technique to dyes etc... Your thoughts and responses are much appreciated. Thank You and Good Day!

Welcome to the Cafe. That's an ambitious project to take on. These plans (http://elderly.com/books/items/656-1.htm)by member Hogo (Adrian Minarovic) are well respected and used by many builders. You could also get Simonoff's book (http://elderly.com/books/items/49-331088.htm)for more detailed instructions. These are both for F5 mandolins.
