I recon my age and rural background are responsible for me being surprised that there are people that don't realize that the name was taken from tha flat irons that the original mandolins from that company somewhat resembled.

(It always looked to me, fatt-dad the geologist, that the company name was taken from the "flat-iron" geologic features along the front range of the Rocky Mountains. If you have ever been to Boulder Colorado, you can see dramatic "flatirons". The Flatiron Mandolin Company uses a mountain graphic that shows prominent "flatirons", which may be prominent in Bozeman.)

That sounds like a new scientific concept. "flat ions" a new study in molecular science.

Or it could be a indian brand of mandolin haha like that Gilson mandolin!!!!! watch out
