I thought this was an appropriate tailpiece cover for an Old Wave A model with MESQUITE back, sides and neck that resides in Texas. Curly redwood top.

John, That is one spectacular looking Instrument. Can you describe the tone compared to maple /spruce example. Bil must have had a time working that mesquite!

Bill has made a fair number of mesquite mandolins, so I am guessing he is comfy with working such a tough wood. I know from experience that mesquite is quite hard on edge tools. The pictures do not do the woods justice - somehow the woods look too yellow.

The curly redwood top give this a bit softer tone than spruce would give and the hardness and density of mesquite (very heavy) adds projection and sustain. It just rings forever and has a bit more of a harpsichord tone than my 1922 snakehead, which it is replacing. For the Irish music I play, it is ideal.

Great tail piece cover and I love the look of the mesquite. Mr. Bussmann does choose some interesting woods that really make his mandolins stand out in a crowd. This is a repost from last fall, but my OW oval A has a lovely burled maple back. I don't know if it impacts the sound, but it sure is neat!

I agree that the Mesquite is a great tonewood...I have one of Bill's Octave Mandos that I'll post pics of soon...and it is absolutely a tone monster...
