That don't look like a Guitar Player (http://www.guitarplayer.com/press100404.htm) to me!

Just as likely to be caught wielding a nylon-string acoustic on stage as he is a Tele or a Strat, McFadden is a master of many a stringed instrument. In fact, it was his mandolin skills that brought him into the P-Funk fold.

I haven't seen that style discussed---"Funk Mandolin" that is...Wonder how some of that old P-Funk would sound on mando?

Just as likely to be caught wielding a nylon-string acoustic on stage as he is a Tele or a Strat, McFadden is a master of many a stringed instrument. In fact, it was his mandolin skills that brought him into the P-Funk fold.
"I met George and the other guys at a recording session in San Francisco in 1998," McFadden recalls. "After that, I'd sit in with them whenever they were in town.

"A couple years ago, after a San Francisco show, George said, 'Get on the bus.' So I thought, 'I guess I'm in P-Funk now.' "

The P-Funk All Stars is a busy, freewheeling group that requires special talents, McFadden says.

"It helps if you know what you're playing," he says. "Otherwise, you better be able to wing it. There's so much material; you never know what he's going to pull out. You have to listen to what's going on with the rest of the band. Sometimes George calls upon you to step forward and say what you've got to say.

"As George says, 'Get in where you fit in.' It's all about listening and finding something that works. Find your place in the music, and get in there."

Sound familiar? http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Can't say I'm a huge fan of Eric's mando playing (though I've only heard a few mp3 snippets; anyone have a link to more P-Funky stuff?) but his guitar playing is fun. He's definitely known more as a guitar player.

And of course, George is the original Atomic Dawg.
