FYI: www.bluegrassbox.com has posted a house concert by Mike and David. Having just seen them near Philly, I can say it was quite a treat. Anyway the show is very good, and a must for all you Compton-Long fans and would-be Munro stylists out there (not to mention Gilchrist fans, as alot of this features Mike and David playing dueling F5s. I couldn't believe how entertaining their show was when they appeared in Philly. It was well worth the late start time to go out and see them.

I really dig this show... IMHO, it's the way dual mandos should be done.

Also FYI, I've had a bunch of folks ask me for help downloading shows. I finally just put up a Bluegrassbox.com mini-how-to (http://dasspunk.com/index.php?wl_mode=more&wl_eid=128) up on my site. I suppose it's slightly scewed towards Mac users but...

I haven`t heard the tape yet but I`d bet the tune is Tanyards by Bill Monroe. #Check the tuning. # If it`s in A minor, it`s Tanyards. #Mike and I usually end our 2nd set with it. #

Ah, Wisconsin... #What a great time that was.

Still having trouble with the download. #Had my son to download to disk, but can not play the files. #The files all have .flac extension. #Can anyone elighten us to the needed configuration. #My son is not getting out of his room until I can here the show.
BTW, are far as supporting these guys, I have everything recorded. The problem is they do not have anything else to buy!

Good mandolin picking guys.

I am able to play FLAC files with Winamp 5 using the Flac Frontend software found here:

You can find the info you need on the "etreewiki" site. It took me a little while to figure it all out. But I finally got WinAmp to play the files. You have to download the FLAC plug-in.

I just burnt this show the other day and I'm loving it. I did have a question though. On a few songs it appears that Compton, I would assume, is playing guitar. Is he playing a 6-string or is that a tenor?

I'm listening to the first few tracks now (in the process of downloading it). Good stuff, I like their singing on Every Knee Shall Bow. I think it's great that they don't mind their live shows being posted on the internet. So thanks for the good tunes!

What you need to do is follow the directions at the site, which takes a bit of work to learn but once you get the hang of it you'll be downloading treasures from that site for weeks. Essentially, using all free software available through links at the site, you download the files (which arrive in compressed ".flac" or ".shn" format), and then convert them to .wav files, burn them to a CDR, and off you go. It's essential to have a DSL or cable modem, as the files are sizable despite the compression.

And that is Mike playing the guitar on many tracks on this (not a tenor). A great "album" to have that is in the top 5 rotation in my car.

It has been awhile but I don’t know if this is generally known. I was just researching to see where he’s been.

I hope he is picking with Bill at what must be the greatest bluegrass shows around.

I think you've linked to the wrong David Long. He, or someone, posted on his Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/david.long.121) on January 19. The link you have says someone named David Long passed away January 9 in Tennessee. His Facebook also says he's living in North Carolina. Of course it's possible some of this could be wrong and it really is David Long the mandolin player but I think some caution should be exercised here. I know David and have heard nothing of this but am checking to verify with people that know.

I am delighted to hear this news and actually wondered if this would occur. The deceased stats seemed eerily similar! But wonderful news! Just D/L’d the Hi Def Stomp from Grisman’s site and I started looking around, couldn’t find anything until I hit a “dead end.” I will buy multiple copies of the new album as penance. David, may you play forever!

And my sincere apologies to David Long, Scott, forums members etc. for jumping to an incorrect conclusion. Sending a donation to the Cafe! And if anyone has news on this new album by David and when it is coming out, let us know!

Kevin, it's not a problem. Just glad David is OK. He's a great guy and I hadn't caught up with him for awhile so at least found out he has this new album coming out. All good.

Not sure what's going on here, but the other day I got a call from a friend and when I answered she started crying and said "you're alive". Seems the word had been circulating among a few friends that I had passed. Greatly exaggerated I might add. She didn't want to believe it and called. I received calls from several friends then as she was spreading the word I was indeed still in the present. Must be something in the air.
