A sweet 1922 A2 in all original condition, no repairs, no issues, frets have been replaced. Beautiful finish. I got a great deal on it here in the classifieds, it wasn't up there more than a couple of hours before I jumped on it! I'm pretty excited as it's my first Gibson, and first oval hole mando (I also play a Summit F style), and it sounds fantastic.

Here it is in the Archive:

Very nice! I've got a Gibson 1917 Alrite D, but I'd love to pick up a nice A2 or A4 from that period.

Post some sound clips when/if you can, we'd love to hear her sing!

Looks great. Probably sounds great. I have its younger cousin, a '23 A2

Congrats. I'm Sheraton Brown with envy. I hope it offers years of great service.

Gorgeous! And with pickguard. I have a 1917 A (pumpkin) and 1916 H-2 mandola (red). Something in this finish would complete the harvest colors trilogy for me. And then something in black (for formal affairs). And then ... and then ... :)

Hope it sounds as good as it looks! :mandosmiley:

Thanks y'all, I'll try to put up a video of it sometime soon. I've had a blast playing old time and blues and whatnot on it, but it's even punchy enough to play with my bluegrass band. My ten month old daughter loves it when I serenade her, so I just learned Freight Train off the Garcia/Grisman "Not for Kids Only" CD.

Also, let this be another lesson that if you watch the classifieds long enough (I lurked on there for probably 5-6 mos) and comparison shop so you know what they typically sell for, you can get a great price on one of these old Gibsons. I scored this for well under market value, esp. given its condition. Yay for the Cafe!

That is a beaut. One of my many unrequited loves is of 1920s round-hole Gibson As. One of these years....

She is a mighty purdy one. Hope she brings you many hours of song.

Great catch. I had a 1916 A-2 for years and really enjoyed it. Have fun with it.

The kind of natural distressing folks would kill for... practice, practice! :)

I bet it's glad to be taken home to someone who will love and play it!

Congratulations on getting the new mandolin. It looks great. I'm sure it sounds pretty sweet as well. Always wanted a snakehead, and will probably have one some day, but alot of these old paddle heads sound awesome.
