I am being reassigned to New Jersey (exit 14W for those of you that are curious) and would appreciate any help in finding jams, festivals, concerts, etc. that are going on in that area of the world over the next two months. I can only attend on Sunday (Mandolin Brothers is closed on Sunday)and I'm supposed to work the other days. I can go as far as Philadelphia, Eastern Pensylvania, Central New Jersey, and southern New York state. I'd appreciate any help that you can give me.

Exit 14w? There's a 14,14a,14b,14c on the njtpke. Clarify your directions before you get lost. I'll see what I can find for you.

Well, I'm not far from Parsippany. If you go to google and search "new jersey bluegrass" there are many links to area organizations and events in NJ/PA/DE/MD/NY.

The BOTMA (bluegrass and old time music assoc. of NJ) holds a monthly jam at a church near Little Silver, I think. I used to hit it when it was on Texas Road in Old Bridge a long time ago. Those were good times/good folk.

Jim,

There was a weekly jam behind Rattlesnake Cafe in Mt Tabor (15 minutes from you) on Sundays 8-10 PM. This was as of last year and I do not know if it is still occurring. The directions to the rattlesnake are:

Take the Denville exit from 80 West it is #39, from 80 East it is #38. You will be on Route 46 heading east. 3/4 of a mile ahead on your right will be the ramp for Rte. 53 South Mt. Tabor and Morristown. Take Rte 53 South and make a right hand turn into the parking lot immediately preceding the 4th traffic light.

The jam was at a music house just past the cafe on the right. If you are at the cafe look to your right there is a small house which is the music house.

If you check it out and it is still occurring kindly let me know.

Thanks,

Scott

PS also search pocono bluegrass should be jam and concert in East Stroudsburg next Sunday first weekend of each month.

Jim, The Appalachian Fiddle and Bluegrass association runs an indoor "shindig" every second Sunday in the Lehigh Valley here in PA. The new site for this year is in Hellertown, PA. Just off route 78 (second exit in PA) It runs from 10am to 6pm and consists of jams throughout the building with a mainstage upstairs with a main act which changes every month and signups for other bands to perform. try afba.org for more info and let me know if your'e going to go.

Thanks all y'all for your input. I finally made it here to Parsippany. Whew! three days of driving has me worn down to a frazzle, and my poor old truck is feling like she was rode hard and put away wet, but she'll recover. I really appreciate all the tips and leads. Thanks!

Hey Jim,
Welcome to NJ http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif Not a lot happening in central Jersey, I moved here about 6 months ago (exit 10) and haven't found any jams nearby, South Jersey is the closest I've found. North Jersey is better, easy access to NYC http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

At least your exhile to this state is only a couple of months, mine is indefinite http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif
Cheers,
Sarah

Bluegrass events in the greater NY area are listed on Banjo Ben's site (http://www.banjoben.com/). I don't think anyoine mentioned that.

I'm in Parsippany Jim. I haven't found any regular sessions, I think the Rattlesnake discountinued the Sunday jams.
The folk Project does some cool stuff, acoustic but not much BG.
Folk Project (http://http://folkproject.org/)

The Auld Shebeen does some good Irish but no sessions.
