This is my favorite Bill Monroe photo. Just him & his buddy leaning on an old tree. He's also wearing a Charlie 1 Horse hat (my personal favorite hats)!

I thought some would like to share their favorite(s) and why! :)

Wow, really nice... looks like he's got some inspiration for yet another tune! Can you give us details of where and when?

Most of the pictures I post are mine, but I don't know where or when this was. I've looked at what he's wearing and it doesn't match similar pictures at that time in his life. I'm partial to everything in that picture from the setting to the hat to his longer hair, etc. Oh yeah ... that ukulele he's holding too ... ;)

You know ... it doesn't really look like a mullet on Mr. Bill ... ;)

i agree - leaning against the tree is the one i'd choose - it's a more than a portrait.

are there any photos of him smiling?

Let's see who's the first to spot the venue this was taken at.

Mmm...link doesn't work anylonger...I'll try to fix it.

Anyone have the mandolin case with Monroe´s hands?

A friend once ripped the double page pic from a library book, because he thought I'd like it. I did, ... in a way.

Fincastle, specifically ... ;)

That's it! Fincastle 1965, the first-ever bluegrass festival, held in 1965 in Roanoke Virginia! Seems like both Carter and Bill are really enjoying the moment!
